Volunteer Opportunities

At SOLE Stepping, we have volunteer opportunities year round.  We value your unique talents and have a place that is waiting just for you.  Reach out and we will work with your schedule and your talents!  We also run specific volunteer events throughout the year that are posted in advance.

Some of Our Popular Volunteer Activities

  • Notes of Encouragement Author:  Using a 3x5 notecard, our authors pen a short note to encourage our children.  This note is given to each child on Distribution Day.
  • Donation Recruiter: Using your community contacts, you set up shoe and/or sock drives and pick locations and dates to collect shoes/socks.
  • Fundraiser Facilitator: Using your brilliant, creative ideas, you pick a month to fundraise with a group or on your own for SOLE Stepping.
  • Shoe Preparation: We prepare the shoes for distribution in December.
  • Distribution Day Volunteer: These are the BEST days of the year!

Distribution Day

Once you sign up for Distribution Day, you will be added to the Distribution Day Volunteer email list.  This email list will keep you up to date on all plans, times, locations, and activities.

Our typical Distribution Day begins with SOLE Stepping arriving at the sponsored school by 6:45 am.  Volunteers are welcome as early as 7:15 am.  Distribution typically begins at 8:00 am.

Our goal is to have 25-35 volunteers on each Distribution Day, pairing one child in each class with one volunteer so no child is left waiting.  When you sign up, bring a friend!  Once you are paired with a child, you are given a bag with the requested shoe size.  In the bag is a new pair of socks, and in the bag is a card of encouragement.   You give the child the card of encouragement, read it to them, and get to know them while you remove their socks and shoes.  Once their old socks and shoes are removed, you put new socks on and then new shoes.  You encourage them to try out the new shoes for the right fit... jump, squat, run...

If they fit, you put their old socks and shoes in their bag, and they are on their way.  If they aren't quite right, you work with the fitting specialist to make sure we get them situated.

We repeat this process until we have seen and celebrated the entire school!  The smiles, high fives, jumps, laughter, hugs, and sometimes even tears will keep your energy high and your heart overflowing.
